 Music Program Summary 2017

Whole school (Pre primary to year 6) will learn and sing community songs including

ANZAC song, Music Count Us In song, WA day song

Pre Primary - 40 mins per week

  • Action songs and singing games- chanting, singing, moving hands and body
  • Explore sounds in environment and instruments in classroom
  • Singing for enjoyment, expression and meaning
  • Creative movement to music

Year 1 and 2 - 60 mins per week

  • Xylophone playing - elements explored, ostinato and simple tunes played
  • Singing from a music book – one per child to read
  • Instrument exploration – familiarity with names and sounds
  • Kodaly word rhythms through puppet play
  • Composition through books including cross curricular arts activities
  • Listening activities and creative movement
  • Music First digital music programs to be utilised

Year 3 and 4 - 60 mins per week

  • Recorder (yr 4 only) playing and ukulele playing
  • Making instruments – STEAM project
  • Singing enrichment – technique, warm ups, performance
  • Rhythmic project – Ti’s and Taa’s, clapping singing games, Kodaly word rhythm compositions
  • Parody song writing from known cartoon themes
  • Short Blast music making experiences – from stimulus to performance in 1 session
  • Music First digital music programs to be utilised

Year 5 and 6 - 60 mins per week

  • Children’s picture book composition
  • 12 Bar blues study – explore, play write
  • Orchestra and score study – Britten’s Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra
  • Uke development – more difficult chords, rhythms and scales plus improvisation
  • Rhythm playing and writing ncluding drum kit and digital rhythm writing
  • Short Blast music making experiences – from stimulus to performance in 1 session
  • Music First digital music programs to be utilised
