CPS BEBRAS FAMILY CHALLENGE

Thank you to all families who participated in this year’s BEBRAS Family Challenge! It was great to see so many families get involved and we have heard that there were many deep and interesting – problem-solving themed – conversations around the dinner table! Great to hear.

For those interested, the answers (as well as some more problems) are posted below.

As part of our Science / STEAM week celebrations, we want to continue our strong representation in the annual BEBRAS challenge by sharing our computational thinking learning with our families at home. The BEBRAS challenge is an annual global event where students are put through their computational thinking paces – solving a number of difficult problems to score as high as possible. Last year, we had our very first student achieve the Honour Roll status by completing all challenges correctly.

All students from years 3 to 6 will be participating in this exciting challenge in a couple of weeks time… so it’s time to ‘get those brains pumping’ and starting our problem-solving warm-ups!

Our challenge this year puts some BEBRAS problems out to our community to solve as a family. There are two levels of challenge to enter (you can enter both!) and to be in the running to win this year’s prize, you simply have to complete the problems at home and email your completed entry to Mr Johnson’s email address. luke.johnson@education.wa.edu.au. It’s that simple!

Students, as you show your parents the challenges and get their help – try to explain the different computational thinking strategies we learn about! These strategies include the concepts of Algorithmic thinking, Abstraction, Decomposition and pattern recognition, Evaluation and Simulating and modelling.

Please find the challenge documents in Word format through the links below, and remember you have to be in it to win it!!!!
