Room Nine International Dot Day 15 September
International Dot Day is a global celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration, observed annually on September 15th. It was inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, which tells the story of a girl named Vashti who, with the encouragement of her teacher, discovers her artistic potential starting with a simple dot. The book encourages people to “make their mark and see where it takes you,” promoting creativity and self-expression. The day encourages students, teachers, and people around the world to embrace their creativity, take risks, and make a positive impact.
Room nine and Room Eleven experimented with tone and value. Using photos as a focus reference, the students were inspired to use a range of media to fill circles with interesting marks. Our talented artists could use any media they liked in black, white, and grey tones, such as pens of different thicknesses, black watercolour, charcoal, soft drawing pencils, and non-permanent pens, which the students could smudge with a wet paintbrush. I am so proud of their results and their approached to this Art Exploration.
