Book Week 2026 📚

Author Visit – As part of our Book Week celebrations, we were incredibly fortunate to have our very own Year 4/5 teacher, author and illustrator Mr Burke! 

Across two days, Mr Burke worked with students from Pre-Primary through to Year 6, sharing his passion for books, writing and illustration. Students were treated to readings of his wonderful picture book Do Not Put on Your Pyjamas, as well as excerpts from his novels, giving them an insight into the world of storytelling and the process of bringing characters and stories to life.

Mr Burke then took students behind the scenes of illustration, teaching them some of the secrets and techniques illustrators use to create engaging characters and images. Students had the opportunity to have a go themselves and were thoroughly engaged throughout the sessions. There were plenty of smiles, creative ideas and enthusiastic participation as students explored their own skills as young illustrators. 

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mr Burke for generously giving his time to spend two days with our students during Book Week. Thank you for teaching, entertaining and inspiring our students and for sharing your love of storytelling and illustration with our school community. 

Book Week Activities – Our Book Week celebrations were filled with opportunities for students to share their love of books, stories and reading across the school. 

Teacher Readings – Each day, after lunch, our teachers took the opportunity to share a favourite story with students. It was wonderful to see everyone settle in and enjoy the simple pleasure of being read to, with a wonderful range of stories bringing our school community together. 

Buddy Class Activities – Our buddy classes enjoyed spending time together throughout Book Week, sharing stories and completing a range of fun activities. Students worked together to decorate bookmarks and enjoy some special reading time with their buddies. 

Book Week Treasure Hunts – Students also enjoyed searching high and low throughout the school for our Book Week characters! The treasure hunts had students exploring the school, working together and putting their knowledge of books and characters to the test.

Book Week Dress-Up Day – Of course, it wouldn’t be Book Week, without the highly anticipated dress up!  The Friday assembly on the basketball was awash with colour and creativity. Students and staff transformed into a wonderful collection of book characters. It was such a wonderful community event to finish off the Symphony of Stories!
