Senior school get some Perspective
This week year five and six artists started exploring perspective, drawing with depth and realism. They looked at art techniques like Linear Perspective (using converging lines toward a “vanishing point” on the horizon line to simulate depth), especially One-Point Perspective (typically used for interior scenes or looking directly at an object, with all lines leading to one point). They were encouraged to notice other key techniques for realism like foreshortening, overlapping and scale of objects to imply distance. Room 11, 12 and 13 Artisans are encouraged to observe first, instead of strictly calculating. They have looked at real life photos, the school’s classrooms and familiar rooms at home, and discussed Van Gogh’s painting, Bedroom in Arles (1888) to observe and analyse how angles and sizes change in real life, focusing on the eye level.
Junior School Self Portraits
ECE and Year one artists are using mirrors to observe the shapes and lines that create their faces. They colour matched the coloured pencils with their reflections.
With care they have drawn themselves with tremendous success. I adore how children draw themselves with refreshing honesty. Picasso said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”. He believed children possess a pure, spontaneous, and uninhibited creativity that adults often lose due to cultural conditioning and fear of judgment.
Art Folders for everyone
On the booklist each student was asked to supply an art folder. The supplier delivered quite a few directly to the school. This week I have been checking if the children have one to store their masterpieces. I will let you know in the next few weeks, through Seesaw, if your children still needs one.
