What an exciting time we’ve had in the library last week, celebrating the wonderful world of books during CBCA Book Week with this year’s theme, “Symphony of Stories.”
Throughout Book Week, our library was filled with story-inspired activities, adventures and opportunities for students to celebrate their love of reading. We loved seeing their imaginations come to life!
The week came to a wonderful conclusion with our Book Week Parade last Friday. It was fantastic to see our students dressed as their favourite book characters and sharing their enthusiasm for stories and reading with the school community. A huge thank you to all our families for the time and creativity that went into the incredible costumes!
Book Week is also the perfect opportunity to say an enormous thank you to our terrific team of parents who generously volunteer their time to run our school’s Book Club. Your time, energy and efforts are very much appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do to help make our Book Club such a success.
A big thank you also goes to all the families who support our Book Club by purchasing books. Every purchase helps our school earn valuable points, which can then be exchanged for brand new books for our library. We have just received another exciting shipment of books, and so far this year, our school has received an incredible $4,961.00 worth of brand new books to add to our collection for our students to discover and enjoy!
Your support truly makes a difference and helps us continue to build a wonderful collection of books for our school community. Thank you for helping us put more books into the hands of our students!
During Book Week, we celebrated our students who participated in and completed the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Collectively, our school community registered a phenomenal 3,146 books over the 12-week challenge! What an incredible achievement, CPS – well done!
A very special congratulations goes to the students who went above and beyond the challenge target of 12 books, reading more than 100 books each over the 12 weeks! Their dedication and enthusiasm for reading have been truly inspiring.
Our Top 3 Readers deserve a special mention:
🥉 Julian Yang – an amazing 188 books
🥈 Zadie Neville – an incredible 203 books
🥇 Mitchel O’Mara – an outstanding 302 books!
What made this achievement particularly special was that the challenge was family-led. Students and their families worked together and made time for reading at home. This is a wonderful reminder of the important role families play in nurturing confident, enthusiastic and lifelong readers.
And while children naturally become more independent readers as they grow, the power of sharing a story together never disappears. Reading aloud, discussing a favourite book, taking turns reading or simply sitting together with a book can create meaningful moments of connection at any age. Books provide a powerful starting point for conversations with children of all ages, opening the door to discussions about friendships, emotions, relationships, challenges, different perspectives and the world around them. Sometimes, talking about what happens to a character can make it easier for children to explore and share their own thoughts and experiences. As children get older, making time to share stories can strengthen our relationships, encourage conversation and remind them that reading is not simply something we do for school it is something we can enjoy together.
A huge well done to every student and family who took part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Whether you read 12 books, 100 books or 302 books, every story was an opportunity to discover something new, spark an idea, enjoy an adventure and build a lifelong love of reading.
