Last week at assembly, our 2026 French Team proudly launched their new initiative, French Phrase of the Fortnight. Every two weeks, the captains will introduce a new French phrase and challenge the entire school community to use it at least once during the fortnight. This challenge is open to everyone – even our younger students in Pre-Primary to Year 2 who are not yet learning French! Each phrase will be displayed in the undercover area, and as the year progresses, we look forward to seeing a whole board filled with the wonderful French expressions our students have been practising.Â
The French Captains also hosted their first French Club session last Thursday lunchtime, celebrating the traditional French festival of La Chandeleur. Students learned about this special day through a fun scavenger hunt, discovering interesting facts about the tradition along the way. They then enjoyed eating delicious crêpes – a highlight for everyone involved! Students also had a go at the traditional custom of holding a coin in one hand while flipping a crêpe in the other.  Legend says that if you can successfully flip the crêpe while holding the coin, you will enjoy a year of wealth and good fortune.Â
