Over the past couple of years, CPS has proudly partnered with Siva from King Chess Club to provide weekly after-school chess tuition in our library.
Students from across all year levels have taken up the challenge, developing their strategic thinking, problem-solving skills and confidence on the chessboard under Siva’s expert guidance.
Recently, we took another exciting step forward with our first-ever cross-year CPS chess team competing in a tournament!
Our Year 2–5 representatives Alex Y, Max H, Tristan S, Ruiqi C, Ashton D and Krshang A, proudly flew the CPS flag at the 2026 School Chess League 3rd Zonal, taking on some of the strongest young chess players from schools across the region.
With 36 primary schools and around 110 students competing, our team put together an impressive performance, finishing with 17.5 points and 4th place overall.
The final results, recently released by the WA Chess Association, confirmed our fantastic fourth-place finish. For a team competing together for the very first time, 4th out of 36 schools is an outstanding achievement and a wonderful indication of the strength and potential of chess at CPS.
A huge congratulations to Alex, Max, Tristan, Ruiqi, Ashton and Krshang for representing our school so proudly. We look forward to seeing where this talented group can take their game next!
