EALD – Harmony Week Report 🧡

Thank you to everyone for a wonderful Harmony Week. It’s always enriching to hear students share their culture and stories. Please read the Harmony Week Report from Ricky and Paul (year 6).  

Ciao! Ni Hao! Kaya and hello! 

Last week at Churchlands Primary School we celebrated Harmony Week. Harmony Week is always celebrated in March across Australia. It used to be called Harmony Day as a day of reflection with the United Nations Day of Anti Racism but it is now called Harmony Week to encourage celebration! 

On Tuesday 24th March it was amazing to see all the different outfits from a wide range of cultures and orange brightly coloured clothes too! We wear orange to show our belonging. We were also so lucky to have a Vietnamese-Australian lion dance troupe perform for us. It was so loud and exciting! Lion dances bring the community together and bring happiness and luck to everyone. It was so impressive! 

The best thing about Harmony Week is hearing friends share their stories about the languages, traditions, and foods they have with their family. Did you know 47% of students at Churchlands identify as having a language background other than English! Some of the languages spoken are Arabic, Spanish, Italian, Hindi, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Dzongkha, Vietnamese and Tamil to name a few! 

Even though Harmony Week is just one week let’s make sure we appreciate each other’s culture all year round. XieXie! Grazie! Thank you and Happy Harmony Week!
