Maths Trek – Term Investigation
Over the past couple of weeks, students from Kindergarten to Year 6 have been immersed in this term’s Maths Trek investigation unit. Each term, every year level takes on a different investigation, carefully designed to connect with what students have been learning in class while challenging them to apply their skills in meaningful, real‑world situations.
These investigations look different from one year level to the next. In the early years, students focus on noticing patterns, exploring questions, and trying simple strategies. As they move through the school, the investigations grow in complexity. Older students are encouraged to select and justify strategies, explain their reasoning, compare multiple approaches, and, in the upper years, demonstrate or even prove the effectiveness of their solutions.
Across the school, the emphasis is on developing strong critical‑thinking habits; questioning, reasoning, persisting, and reflecting. These investigations not only strengthen mathematical understanding but also build confidence and independence as learners.
