Reconciliation Week and the CPS Acknowledgement to Country
During the Reconciliation Assembly last Friday all our Reconciliation messages powerfully displayed on our individual hearts were installed around the undercover area. Teachers, parents and students enjoyed reading the messages and took the opportunity to take photos of the Persuasive art that supported and enhanced the wonderful HASS assembly.
This collaborative artwork was astounding in many ways. I am so proud to be working with such a compassionate, creative community.
Still Life Drawing
During this week the classes have been confronted with a Still Life, made of objects found in specialist classes at CPS.
Drawing still life with kids offers numerous benefits for their artistic and cognitive development. It fosters observational skills, hand-eye coordination, creating shadow and perspective, noticing finer details and spatial awareness, while also providing a platform for creative expression and emotional release. Still life is also a great way to introduce children to basic artistic principles like shape, light and perspective.
The objects will not move unlike a person! The young artists can take their time, slow down and notice the details of things.
It is difficult and takes practise. All my young artists have worked very well, drawing what they can see. I am encouraging the students to stop and draw regularly, even daily, as this will improve confidence and their Art of Looking.
Art Club
We now have art club at lunch on Tuesday, in odd weeks, but we have welcomed some keen year one students who keep arriving expectantly on Tuesdays to relax and do art in the art studio. It is so lovely to see them chill and create in our art space. They love it!
