At Churchlands Primary, we are learning how to take pride in our efforts and care for the things around us. This fortnight, our PBS focus is “We do our best” and “We are responsible for all property.”
How You Can Support at Home:
- Encourage doing your best:
Talk about what it means to give your best effort, even when tasks are challenging. Praise persistence and improvement, not just results. - Discuss responsibility for property:
Explain why it’s important to look after belongings, both personal and shared. Model respect for items at home and school. - Model care and effort:
Show your child how you take care of household items and complete tasks thoughtfully. Emphasize that effort and responsibility go hand in hand. - Celebrate responsibility and effort:
Notice when your child tidies up or looks after something without being asked. Praise them for showing care and doing their best.
Home Activities to Support Responsibility and Effort:
- Tidy-Up Challenge:
Set a timer and work together to tidy a space. Talk about how caring for property makes the environment better for everyone. - Effort Reflection:
After homework or chores, ask: “What part did you try hardest on?” Celebrate the effort, not just the outcome. - Shared Responsibility Task:
Choose a family item (like the TV remote or a game) and agree on rules for looking after it. Reflect on how shared responsibility works. - Role Play Scenarios:
Act out situations where responsibility and effort matter.
Example: “You borrowed a friend’s pencil, what do you do before returning it?”
Or: “You’re building a project; how can you make sure you do your best?” - Praise Care and Persistence:
Catch your child in the moment –
“I noticed you put away your toys carefully, great job looking after them!”
“You kept trying even when it was hard, that’s doing your best!”
