On the final day of Term 2, Churchlands Primary School swapped out the Champs-Élysées for our school oval as students from Years 3 to 6 took part in our very own Tour de France event!
In the lead-up to the big day, students had been learning about this iconic French sporting event in their French lessons. They created their own passports—complete with maps of France and a custom Tour de France route—which they used to track their progress throughout the race.
Our version of the Tour included five stages, each consisting of a certain number of laps around the oval and a French-themed challenge, proudly run by our fantastic French Captains. From greetings to birthday, students were tested on their French while working up a sweat.
There was plenty of friendly competition, with yellow jerseys awarded to the fastest finishers, just like the real Tour. All students who made it to Stage 3 were eligible to enter the prize draw, encouraging everyone to have a go, regardless of pace. Prize winners were awarded a bag of goodies including a voucher for chocolat chaud and pain au chocolat with Madame Leckey in Term 3.
A big merci to Mr Howesmith and his music team for keeping the tunes pumping and spirits high all morning, and a heartfelt thank you to Mr Marshall for his help organising the event and for being MC extraordinaire on the day.
It was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm, teamwork, and French spirit on display.
Bravo to all our petits coureurs—you certainly earned a holiday after that effort!
