Over the last two weeks our representing students have had some fantastic experiences, and results, at Scitech as part of this year’s Scitech Challenge series!
In Week 2, our two senior teams were fantastic in their pratical problem solving within the STEM areas, working extremely well together while performing this year’s set tasks. Working their way through maths word problems, scientific methods and observation activities, communicating engineering solutions, and finally a quiz on the solar system in the planetarium, provided a fun and engaged backdrop for our boys to ‘bounce-off’, support and ‘build-on’ each others knolwedge and skills.
The year 5 team were admirable with their endeavours, and while they did not place this year, Isaac L, Edward G, Lachie X and Isaac N put in a fantastic effort to compete well – they couldn’t of been far off the placings!
Our year 6 team, Kingsley G, Lucas Z, Eeson L and Jerry Q, ended up blitzing the field, and for the very first time, took out the challenge as champions! A fantastic effort from the boys. When interviewed at the end by the officials, the boys put it down to “the way the team was ‘synced'” alluding to the fact that they knew each other very well, understood each other’s strengths and challenges and used that to their advantage. They also had a lot of fun along the way! Well done boys!
On Tuesday of week 3, while not in an officially competing capacity, the year 3/4 representatives, Nina B, Enya V, Allan A, Hugo V, Avnish U, Casper P, Patrick L and Jordan L had another fantatsic day challenging themselves within a range of STEM based Scitech activities – as winners of the CPS STEAM Week Challenge.
Getting through most of the famous Mr J Maths challenge in the morning, before breaking out into some serious science investigations – looking at electromagnetism, enjoying a chemistry based science show and enjoying all that Scitech had to offer, it was a great day to open minds and enjoy each other’s company while having a lot of fun.
Congratulations to all students involved for your outstanding behaviour and terrific attritude when contributing to the day! You all earned your places on the days and have set the bar high for our future representatives.
