📚 Library Book Care – A Gentle Reminder for Families
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Our school library is a treasured place where students discover the joy of reading, explore their imaginations, and grow their knowledge. We love seeing children excited to borrow books and bring them home to share with you!
However, we’ve recently noticed a number of books being returned in poor condition. Whilst I am working towards replacing the old worn out copies of books that have seen better days, some of our brand new books have been damaged by sticky substances, drinks, or food, and around 15 of them have also had their protective clear covers torn off. These books are shared by many students, damage like this not only shortens their life but also creates extra unnecessary work to clean, recover, repair or replace the books, and can affect the reading experience for others.
We kindly ask for your support in helping your child care for borrowed library books by encouraging a few simple habits:
🔹 Keep books away from food and drinks – A designated reading spot away from the kitchen or dining area can help.
🔹 Ensure water bottles are sealed – Especially when books are transported in school bags.
🔹 Handle books gently – Please remind children not to peel or pick at covers, especially the protective ones.
🔹 Store books in a safe place at home – A bookshelf or a special spot in their room can help keep them tidy and dry.
🔹 Return books on time and in the condition they were borrowed – This helps all students enjoy a wide range of stories and learning.

Premier’s Reading ChallengeÂ
The Premier’s Reading Challenge only has 2 weeks to go. Our Churchlands PS students have now collectively read an amazing 2,045 books and that number is growing steadily every day!Â
Well done to those students that are participating. For those who haven’t registered yet, get involved and help increase our school total and join in the fun.Â

Reading offers many benefits and the Premier’s Reading Challenge makes it even more exciting! The challenge encourages reading, gives students a goal to work towards and nurtures a lifelong love of books.  Â
Parents play a key role in developing great reading habits. The challenge gives families a fantastic chance to read together. Reading is a wonderful way to unwind, escape to new worlds and discover incredible authors. Place your ticket in the treasure chest at the library desk!Â
Every Thursday at lunchtime, 3 lucky tickets will be drawn for a special prize from the treasure chest.Â
